Networking for the newly unemployed

Now that the layoffs are increasing, a new type of networking is emerging that echoes Pink Slip parties held during the dot.com bust - even though unemployment has now been hit nearly every industry. In addition to parts pink slip, there are groups that form around unemployed, where people can provide each other with support, advice on jobs, help with writing resumes, and more.

One such group is the Social Network unemployed, which, with some irony, I believe, was started by the founder of the future millionaires of Santa Monica. However, after poor response to future millionaires and a response to the growing group of unemployed, including a feature on a local newscast, the founder, Jeremy Erickson, decided to concentrate on building the group of unemployed. And he has found his niche in the market serving the unemployed - writing resumes. He invited the meeting participants to bring their resumes, cover letters and portfolios to work on them to make them better, and announced its availability as a sofa and mentor to help them.

He also suggested a set of rules to get employed. Among them: "Get off your butts ... talk to people ... build a great research curriculum ... network, network, network ... and resume that you send as a day." He also advised the numbers game, doing what it can stay out for the attention of the employer, and not lose hope.

In addition to these groups of unemployed, I have discovered a growing number of corporate networks and business groups that include many of the unemployed - and often these small companies and start-ups are a good source of jobs and opportunities, as well as being founded by the former employee. And all kinds of groups, from social groups to work - are sponsoring pink slip and parts of unemployment - a sign of the times.

So how do you find these groups? Check if you have a local network as MeetUp group in your area. If you do, put in some relevant search terms such as "unemployed", "Networking", "entrepreneur" and "work" to see what groups there are in this category in your area. Another source of such groups is Craigs List. Look for your area, and then check for the community and other groups in that position.

Then, start going to these events. Bring business cards, and if they do so, you can get it done for about $ 45 dollars of business printers on-line card as Vista Print. Working on a resume highlighting the skills that you think will be sold, along with the jobs that are more relevant. And be prepared to adapt your resume for the job you are interviewing for, it is easy to do now on a computer. Just rearrange and edit your copy as appropriate, and keep copies of these different curriculum, so you can easily print up or e-mail to potential employers. Also, be willing to lower the tax bracket you're looking for, so you can jump on board some of these new start-ups that are just leaving the station. They often can not afford much to begin, but many of them will develop into a powerful engine in the new economy, new opportunities opening up even more in the future.

And if you have an employer, these events are a good way to start-up businesses to find well-qualified employees who are willing to go on a salary lower than usual just to work. I know first hand because I started going to these groups myself to take a few administrative assistants, and I immediately received dozens of resumes from people wanting to work again ....
