What are networks?

The question should be what is an efficient and effective for the needs of an organization? But let's start by defining what a network

A network is a set of computers connected together by means of physical devices that send and receive signals to transport data. The main objective is to share resources and information between different users.

The networks are classified by different concepts:

!. Equipment needed - Physical devices such as routers, network switches and hubs.

1. For the physical range that has the network: local or personal type, corresponding to small areas, or WAN network powerful. There are other categorizations, such as campus area networks or CAN (campus area network) is a computer network that connects local area networks through a limited geographic area, like a college campus or a military base and metropolitan area networks (metropolitan area network or MAN, in English), a high-speed network (broadband) that covers a wide geographic area.

2. Because of its topology, which refers to the laying of cable to connect the different devices to a network. Each distribution can represent in a diagram and there are several types of topology: for example,

Bus network, consisting of a single communication channel (called bus, trunk or backbone) which connect the different devices.

Ring network, each station is connected to the next and the last is connected to the star primera.Red, stations are connected directly to a central point and all communications necessarily pass through it.

3. And its technology, which depend on the different pieces of technology used to achieve a simple network infrastructure.
